Traditional approaches to diagnosing and treating alcoholics and drug addicts have often not been effective with those abusing or addicted to marijuana. This workshop will offer behavioral diagnostic tools and discuss the role of motivational interviewing in the process of change. Emphasis will also be placed on the understanding of marijuana as a toxic drug and as a drug of dependence. New research on the marijuana abstinence syndrome and its management will be presented.
