Various medications have met FDA approval or are in development to provide opiate replacement therapy in opioid addiction. Methadone, levo methadyl acetate (LAAM), buprenorphine, dynorphan 1-13, tramadol are some of the more prominent of these medications. The presentation will discuss these as well as the continued development of opioid antagonists (naltrexone, nalmefene, cyclazocine) and more exotic substances like ibogaine and dextromethorphan in the treatment of opiate addiction.
