Work addiction: the responsible addiction. It works like alcohol to sedate the feelings. If process addictions are considered in a diagnostic interview, chemical addiction is often preceded by work addiction, especially in health care professionals. Law enforcement personnel may also have an addictive relationship to risk/danger. Ultimately, this pattern not only leads to AOD addiction, but to burn out.
