We use terms such as empathy, therapeutic relationship, and spirituality when discussing important aspects of recovery and the bond between the therapist and patient. We work with patients that can not control their anger yet have difficulty putting words to their feelings. We work with patients whose brains are not vertically and/or horizontally integrated due to life trauma and neglect. This skills training event will give the clinician an understanding of the neuroscience and neuropsychology of addiction and recovery. From this profound understanding, techniques will be described that can improve attachments (to become a better parent, husband, wife, etc.), bring the past into conscious control (integrate our thoughts and feelings) and to better connect with others in recovery and with a Higher Power (spiritual relationships). *This is a two part lecture
