12th Annual Conference on Counseling Skills
Whether you are a professional in the addiction or mental health field who is looking for opportunities to broaden your knowledge, or are looking to obtain the necessary continuing education credits, you do not want to miss the 12th Annual Counseling Skills Conference, presented by U.S. Journal Training. The program, at the Las Vegas Hilton September 14-16, 2006, features notable speakers presenting treatment skills and modalities on several topics of interest, including victimization and violence; the brain; therapeutic interventions; domestic violence; couples; mindfulness; pain and addition; and aging.
Headliners of the event include distinguished academic and researcher Donald Miechenbaum, PhD, who will explain how PTSD develops and how clinicians should proceed with assessing and treating the disorder. Dr. Meichenbaum also presents on the topics of treatment for suicidal patients; and how to prevent and treat aggressive and violent behavior in individuals.
Lecturer and trainer Joe Dispenza, DC, shares his extensive knowledge of neurology, neurophysiology, and brain function, as it relates to recovery from addiction and trauma. Dr. Dispenza uses the concept of neuroplasticity to explain how humans can learn to experience life in a more conscious and responsible way.
Cloé Madanes is a world-renowned teacher of family and brief therapy and one of the originators of the strategic approach to family therapy, as well as the author of several books. Ms. Madanes will present on the topic applying human needs to strengthen couples relationships.
John Briere, PhD, Director of the Psychological Trauma Program at the University of Southern California, will explore the most effective treatment strategies for PTSD. In another session Dr. Briere discusses the effects of early psychological trauma on the self.
Other presenters at the conference include: Brenda Mangers, MBA; Dick Schwartz, PhD; Gina Arons, PsyD; and Mel Pohl, MD.
In addition to the conference sessions, there will be three courses offered at the conference. Attendees can choose from the following tracks: New Interventions for Reaching Abusive Men by David Wexler, PhD; Mindfulness and Psychotherapy by Ronald Siegel, PsyD; and Experiential Group Therapies and Exercises by Jerry Harmon, CADAC, LISAC.
