Over the past fifteen years significant progress has been made in identifying some of the precise neurophysiologic mechanisms involved in drug dependence. This includes a clarification of the cellular and neural pathways involved in drug craving and specific forms of drug dependence, such as tobacco, alcohol, cocaine, and methamphetamine dependence. This session will also analyze key regions of the brain which are involved in the recovery process.
